Apostles Are Architects
"According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon". (1Corinthians 3:10)
The word, “masterbuilder” in 1Corinthians 3:10 is translated from the Greek word, architekton, meaning, “chief or head worker of wood”, “master carpenter” or builder. It is from architekton that we derive the English word, architect. As an apostle, Paul tells that he is a wise architect, master-builder, and a steward of the blueprints of the building and body of Christ (Eph 3:2-10; Col 1:25-27).
Through the apostle Paul, we learn that apostles are wise master-builders, possessing wisdom for the work to which they are appointed. In his epistles, Paul tells that his apostolic assignment was to reveal the hidden mystery of God’s wisdom and knowledge: (1Co 2:7-13,16; Eph 3:2-10; Col 1:25-27).
Therefore, we see that an apostle’s primary and predominant tools are wisdom and knowledge. Wisdom and knowledge are the hammer and nails of the apostles. They are the blueprints of the building of God, the master-builder’s tools of the trade.
